Night Owl Coffee
Description
The client: a local coffee roaster selling online-only and looking to expand to brick and mortar stores in the next two years. The Brief: Night Owl Coffee needed new packaging designs with custom branding to replace their printed, kraft paper bags. They did not have a logo and wanted a branding design system that was eye catching and memorable.

Packaging designs for three varieties of coffee. I used branding elements combined with original illustrations using vector art to create an atmosphere for each flavor profile.
My Solution: After ruminating on the implication of the brand name and tagline, I decided on a retro aesthetic inspired by synthwave imagery. Coffee is of course not often drunk at night by most people, so a night themed concept based around coffee was not immediately obvious. I was reminded of late nights drinking coffee at 24 hour diners burning the midnight oil in college as well as going for a bite to eat after a night out. The diners I frequented often hadn't been updated since the 80s, and a neon, 80s-inspired aesthetic supported the idea of New York City nightlife and is also on trend for contemporary design. I decided to lean into the idea of the grunge and the glamor of NYC at night as part of the brand's story and developed a dark, minimalist design palette using minimalist geometric forms, grainy gradients, and neon glow.
